This year again the Hungarian Red Cross has launched its first aid duty service on the beaches of Lake Balaton. As last year, between 2 July and 19 August, 364 trained volunteers provide the service on 26 beaches.
As a novelty, this year at the stands of the Hungarian Red Cross holidaymakers can get regular information on UVB radiation. Moreover, at six venues, the first aid service volunteers measure radiation data.
The implementation of the program is facilitated by a more than HUF 5 million support from the Lake Balaton Development Council and HUF 3 million from the Hungarian Foreign Trade Bank. Both the Hungarian Red Cross and the National Ambulance Service ensures professional support to the service. In some places, first aiders are equipped with semi-automatic defibrillators to help resuscitation. Last year, during less than two months, first aiders attended 2648 smaller hurts and injuries on the beaches.
